“Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall,” wrote F Scott Fitzgerald, and never a truer word was spoken about what is by far the best season. With its crisp mornings, bonfire smells and unshakeable back-to-school feeling, autumn is a wonderful time to refresh the home.
I like to focus on three main themes for an autumnal update:
- Textiles – I love to layer up chunky knitted blankets, soft fleece-y throws, velvet cushions and richly padded eiderdowns
- Lighting – autumn is the season of the best golden hours, but as the nights draw in it’s also a time when we rely on artificial accent lighting heavily. Consider candlelight, table lamps, standard lamps and even mirrors
- Colours – the autumnal palette speaks for itself, from burnished gold and rich rusts, to coniferous greens and dusky pink
So, below are my picks for accents – big and small – that can get your home ready for long cosy evenings and brisk weekend mornings.
