I was lucky enough to collaborate recently with MADE.com on a collection of tips for styling rattan in your home, whether you’re into free and easy ‘70s boho revival, or elegant Japanese minimalism – or anything in between.
While I was working on the piece, it was necessary to conduct some…industry research. That’s my story for why there’s two rattan trays and a rattan mirror on their way to my house in the post, and I’m sticking to it.
There was so much good stuff dropping onto high street retailers’ ‘New In’ section using my beloved rattan, that I couldn’t resist an update to my round-up of the best rattan on the high street. This trend clearly isn’t going anywhere.
In fact, brands are updating their treatment of the woven stuff. Pairing pale, varnished rattan with a strong black trim is a clear trend – one that Zara Home are nailing at every term. I’m really excited to see designers finding more creative ways to use the material for accessories and fixtures – it makes the trend way more accessible, without the need to invest in high-ticket furniture.
